Cloven Hoof, Devils End

Or, at least, the Blue Boar at Aldbourne. This pub starred in a Doctor Who Story called the Daemons back in 1970, and when Wayne noticed just how close it was to the Ridgeway route we took down to Avebury, it was added to our itinery. The pub has been done up since we first went, but it, and the surrounding village, are still very recognisable as the setting for the classic story.

Village Monument

East Hagborne was the setting for a Doctor who story called the Android Invasion, and its proximity to our route down to Avebury meant that it too was added to the Binner ritual. Neil, James and Wayne are seen here on the village monument, which was the site where Tom Baker was tied up whilst awaiting total destruction of the alien constructed facsimile village.

Fleur de Lis

Unlike the Blue Boar at Aldbourne, East Hagbourne's village pub retained it's own name. Unlike the the Blue Boar at Aldbourne though, and you'll find this very interesting I'm sure, the pub interior in the Android Invasion was not based on the original. There you go. Start messing with detail with a Doctor Who fan and the ugly truth will not be ignored.

Mounting the Tour

Wayne scales the extreme face of Glastonbury's easterly facing escarpment. Or maybe not. Glastonbury was an occasional destination for the Binners, but the place is maybe just a little bit overtaken by New Age ideals, or rather, some peoples interpretations of them. Lots of lovely people who do believe, and lots of others who are just trying to find a niche to be unpleasant from.

Red Lion Fun

In the old days, the Binners would arrive at Avebury, have a look around the stones, then retire to the Red Lion for fun and pass-time. The pool table was a popular centre entertainment - until James played football on it on New Years Eve 1991, and the fleeting presence of bar billiards and a Doctor Who pinball were much appreciated. Carl, James and Dave are seen here on the latter. All such entertainment is now gone.

Setting Off

After an evening's entertainment in the pub, the Binners would set off from the Village's Main Street car park, usually sporting some peculiar head-gear, for the haven of West Kennet Long Barrow. In this picture, Dave and James seek the safety of a low tech Hard-Hat/Davey-Candle combo, whilst Wayne risks the perils of the Avenue with just the hair on his head on his head.
